The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Aboriginal health or community services professional to join our Research and Projects team; to ensure Cancer Council WA’s cancer prevention and early detection strategies are accessible and culturally safe for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Western Australia, as well as supporting education targeted at health professionals working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across WA.


Based in Subiaco, this position is full-time. Part-time requests may be considered, please state this preference in your application.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Coordinating, implementing, and evaluating professional learning initiatives on cancer control for Aboriginal peoples in WA.
  • Supporting the development of culturally acceptable community and public education initiatives on cancer control for Aboriginal peoples in WA.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, which include but are not limited to, Aboriginal health and medical services and organisations, media and other peak bodies.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunities Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Tertiary qualification in a health area (health promotion, education, nursing) OR a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a community development role.
  • Demonstrated experience in community development/health promotion programs and/or demonstrated ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate professional learning programs.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills including ability to communicate effectively with senior managers, health professionals, community workers, and community members.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
  • Positive approach to the workplace
