The opportunity

Working within the Cancer Prevention & Research division, reporting to the Alcohol Programs Manager; you will be responsible for leading alcohol prevention initiatives at Cancer Council WA.

Based in Subiaco, this position is full-time, fixed term until January 2026.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Coordinating all aspects associated with alcohol prevention policy, including monitoring the policy environment, maintaining an awareness of policy-relevant evidence, and writing policy-related documents (e.g. letters, submissions, briefing notes, blogs).
  • Leading collaborative and innovative advocacy approaches with external stakeholders.
  • Contributing to policy-relevant research projects to inform and progress alcohol policy priorities.
  • Contributing to the delivery of impactful public education campaigns.
  • Contributing to the planning and delivery of activities and reporting in line with contractual arrangements with funders.
  • Supporting the workflow of 1 - 2 team members.
  • Representing Cancer Council WA at meetings, seminars or other events.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in health-related field
  • 5 years’ experience in development and delivery of public health policy, programs or campaigns
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and national policy landscape for preventing harm from alcohol use
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and writing (e.g. letters, submissions, briefing notes, blogs, reports)
  • Experience in supervising staff and volunteers is desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
