The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a health professional to join our Regional Education team. As Regional Education Officer, you will initiate and promote cancer prevention and early detection strategies for the Mid West region.

Based in Geraldton this position is full-time or part-time (minimum 0.6FTE) and ongoing and entails travel within the Mid-West region.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Promote and provide information on cancer prevention and early detection strategies in the community.
  • Coordinate professional and public education events on cancer in your region.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the local media, primary care professionals, local governments and community organisations in your region.
  • Be the media spokesperson for Cancer Council WA in the Mid-West region.
  • Identify resources and partnerships to support our relevant projects and initiatives.
  • Provide monthly reporting on activities carried out over your region.
  • Attend and participate in Regional Education Officers meetings as required.

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in a health area (health promotion, education, nursing) or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a community development role
  • Knowledge of regional health services and issues is desirable
  • Knowledge of cancer control issues is desirable
  • Experience working with the media is desirable
  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal including public speaking and written communication skills
  • A National Police Clearance (required if successful)
  • Current West Australian Driver’s Licence
