The opportunity

As a 13 11 20 Consultant you will provide current, accurate, evidence-based supportive cancer care and advocacy to members of the WA community who access the 13 11 20 Cancer Council’s Information and Support Service line.

Based in Subiaco, this position is casual, working shifts between 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday.

What you’ll be doing:

• Providing evidence-based information and support regarding all aspects of cancer and psychosocial care to 13 11 20 callers and 13 11 20 written enquiries.
• Delivery of culturally safe services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
• Appropriately referring callers and written enquiries to relevant internal and external services and resources.
• Providing professional and accurate documentation and call records.
• Actively assisting with the development, improvement and delivery of contemporary supportive care and resource provision.
• Updating information on community oncology services and cancer programs to maintain a current and reliable database.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need –

Essential:

• A tertiary qualification in a health-related field (e.g nursing, allied health, social work) and current registration with nationally recognised peak body
• Demonstrated experience in or a post-graduate qualification in oncology
• Experience in client psychosocial assessment with appropriate communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.
• High level of initiative and flexibility and the ability to meet deadlines while balancing multiple priorities.
• Strong computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office suite and database applications
• A current Police Clearance
• A positive approach to the workplace
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA

Desirable:

• Experience in health system navigation throughout Western Australia
• Post-graduate counselling or communication skills training and experience
• Ongoing oncology practice in a clinical setting
